Joe Root and Jos Buttler have signed for Sydney Thunder for Big Bash League 2019
England top class Batsmen Joe Root and Jos Buttler have signed up for Sydney Thunder for the 2018-19 Big Bash League, it was confirmed on Friday (August 24).
Joe Root will be looking to reinvent himself as a T20 batsman, especially after he was dropped from the England side in the T20I against India. Since the 2016 World T20 final, Root has played 12 20-over games – eight for England and four for Yorkshire – because of his national commitments.
Joe Root said everyone you speak to that has played in the Big Bash finds it a really interesting tournament. You want to be involved in it and I’m really excited to get that opportunity with Sydney Thunder. I had some really good experiences with Shane Bond in the past when I’ve worked with him and I’m really looking forward to doing that again.
Jos Buttler has already featured for the Thunder and played six games last year. “I loved my time there, there’s a great atmosphere in the group. There’s a lot of young guys but some experience in there as well, including Shane Watson who I really got to enjoy getting to know and playing under his captaincy.
It’s a great part of the world and a really fun dressing room. I’m delighted to be back with the Thunder Nation.
I think you look at the team and the battering order and it’s a team that is going to be a force in the competition.
